Below is the report from Jordan, the winner of the 2016 scholarship to go to McPherson College.
I would like to thank the CCCEF for awarding me the scholarship to go to McPherson College and participate in their summer institute.
My trip to Kansas was truly unforgettable.
I saw more rare and desirable cars in that one week than I have in my whole life. I even got to drive a 1930 Nash four door sedan.
If you’re a car guy, you will feel truly at home. I met many other enthusiasts from all over the country and no matter where they were from, or what they knew or didn’t know, we could all relate to one another through our love of cars.
I elected to do the upholstery classes and I learned how an industrial sewing machine functions and how to do various types of automotive seams such as blind, single reinforced, and French seams.
Other classes included drive line rebuilding, engine rebuilding, paint, and metal shop. They even had a motorcycle shop.
After classes ended, the administration had planned field trips to go to car shows or to visit some private local collections. I got to drive the ’30 Nash at one of these private collections.
If you have any desire to learn about classic cars and how to repair them, I can tell you that there is no place more comprehensive and capable of teaching you then McPherson college. Whether you’re restoring a Dusenberg SJ or a Pontiac Grand Prix SJ, McPherson has the tools and knowledge to make it possible.
