CCCEF Update For October and November 2024

Hello Friends and Cruisers,

It is a beautiful Saturday afternoon as I write this. The yardwork is done and I’m sitting out behind my garage in my rocking chair enjoying the beautiful breeze. My bet is that many of you are at one of the many car events in our area and I hope you’re enjoying the weather as much as I am!

By the time you read this, the CCCEF Car Show will have already happened and I’m hoping you came and helped support our mission. Another huge event in the area was the Endless Summer Cruisin Ocean City. We hosted a car show at the Convention Center and selected some junior judges to choose 9 of the 10 cars that we recognized at the event.  The 10th winner was selected by one of our foundation members.

The next big event for us will be the East Coast Indoor Nationals at the Timonium Fair Grounds. There, we hope to debut our Soap Box Derby Car entry for the Bel Air Town Derby. Also, at the show we will come up with some sort of selection process or contest to find a driver for the car. The young person, boy or girl, needs to be between 7 and 12 years of age. If you think you know someone that may be interested in piloting our entry, keep an eye on our Facebook page, and in the pages of this magazine.

After that, we will be up at Dragfest in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, the first full weekend of January. That is a great car show, particularly if you are a drag racing fan as many of the exhibits are current and past drag racing machines. Stop by and see us.

Now I want to touch on a topic that is sure to upset some people, but most people will applaud. I have been involved in several clubs, nonprofits, as well as management teams at employers in the last 50 years. One of the things that disappoints me is when you have a conversation with an individual, which should be held in confidence, whether it’s requested or not, and somehow the subject matter is shared with other folks. In almost every case that I’ve seen in my years, this causes some consternation between members, friends or family members.

As adults, we most certainly should have learned by now that we need to STAY IN OUR LANE. The best way to keep friends and possibly influence new ones is to show that you can be trusted as a sounding board. You may not agree with their point of view, but you’ve been trusted with information that should be held close to your vest. I can’t count the number of times that an occurrence such as this has caused employment issues, friends to lose friends and organizations to lose valued members. Let’s all try to be that confidant to whomever we may share our life and times with.

Here’s hoping that you enjoy the rest of this cruising season and I’ll see you on the return road….

Doug
